Course Description
Oncology Massage Global provides Internationally endorsed online learning for massage therapists who want to provide effective and safe massage for those with a diagnosis of cancer.
The skills learned in our course equip therapists to work with any medically frail client with complex health issues.
Practical skills are presented via video on the teaching platform and can be viewed as often as needed.
The content uses a range of multi-media designed to keep you focused and interested.
Topics are broken up into small presentations so even if you only have a small amount of time, you can easily progress. There are questions and challenges along the way to engage and reinforce your learning, with regular online meetings with the facilitator for discussions, case studies and questions.
The end of the course includes a case study for you to design a full body massage including correct draping, positioning, appropriate length of treatment, the accommodation of medical devices and other vital health considerations.
You will need access to the internet, plus an iphone or similar smartphone for filming and sending your practical sessions.
Module 1 is the entry level, providing the skills and knowledge to work with patients from diagnosis through all forms of cancer treatment to the end stage of life.
Module 1 comprises 4 units, each including a practical element and each to be completed in a 2-week period. The virtual class will meet online weekly to review the content before proceeding to the next section of the unit. Module 1 is completed within 8 weeks at a pace that is comfortable for you.
Module 1 Content:
- Introduction to the essence of oncology massage, how it differs from remedial massage
- The science of cancer
- How to work effectively and safely with a client receiving chemotherapy, radiation or post-surgical procedure
- The nature of fascia and how cancer treatment impacts the internal matrix
- Working with a compromised lymphatic system
- Oncology Massage intake form
- Draping and Practical methods are provided each fortnight and include various techniques for the whole body, including one with a fully clothed client
