Code of Conduct for Tasmanian Unregistered Health Care Workers
Massage & Myotherapy Australia welcomes the implementation of the National Code of Conduct for Unregistered Health Care Workers in Tasmania.
The Code came into effect on 24 June 2026 and applies to massage therapists, remedial massage therapists and myotherapists practising in Tasmania. This means Tasmanian practitioners are now covered by the same minimum standards that already apply across most of Australia.
The National Code closely aligns with the Association’s existing Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and establishes minimum professional and ethical standards covering areas including:
- Providing safe and ethical care
- Working within your qualifications, training and scope of practice
- Obtaining consent before providing treatment
- Maintaining appropriate patient records and protecting patient privacy
- Maintaining appropriate professional indemnity insurance
- Following infection-control requirements
- Providing truthful information about qualifications and services
- Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Referring patients to other health service providers when appropriate
Importantly, the Office of the Health Complaints Commissioner Tasmania can now investigate complaints and take action against practitioners who fail to meet these standards. This will help strengthen public protection and confidence in the profession.
