What you need to know about the CPE Hours transition
After a transition period of more than two years, CPE Points are concluding and will be replaced entirely by CPE Hours from 1 October 2026.
The Association made this change to simplify the CPE Program for members and better align with private health fund and broader health industry continuing professional education requirements.
From 1 October 2026, all members will be required to maintain 20 CPE Hours at all times. CPE Hours remain valid for 12 months from the completion date of each activity, meaning CPE will continue to operate as a rolling requirement.
The Association will ensure members are not disadvantaged during the changeover. However, we strongly encourage all members to take an active role in managing their professional education and regularly review their CPE record to ensure they maintain the required 20 CPE Hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
How will I manage hours? Will it be harder, and do I need to complete more CPE?
While the way CPE is measured is changing, using hours instead of points is not necessarily easier or harder. The Association has found that members who typically meet or exceed 40 CPE Points are already completing a comparable number of hours. In most cases, members will not need to complete more CPE.
Where members may need to adjust is if they rely heavily on a single category of CPE, such as attending webinars. Members are encouraged to diversify their learning where possible. For example, alongside webinars, members may undertake HALO modules, workshops, reading or other forms of eligible professional education.
What will happen to my CPE Points?
CPE Points will remain visible through the Association website for a period after September 2026. During the transition period, both Points and Hours have been recorded against individual CPE entries.
Once the transition is complete, members will still be able to view their historical CPE records and your current CPE will carry over.
What happens with half hours?
In most cases, the Association rounds up to the nearest hour. For example, an eligible 30-minute activity can be recorded as 1 CPE Hour.
What about ongoing education and courses?
This remains unchanged. Ongoing courses are eligible for CPE Hours, provided the relevant category and entry caps are not exceeded.
For example, a Diploma has a cap of 120 CPE Hours. Members may claim eligible hours progressively throughout their studies, such as 30 hours per semester, up to the maximum of 120 hours.
How can I earn more CPE Hours if I’m unable to attend workshops?
There are many ways to earn CPE Hours without attending face-to-face workshops or conferences. Members are encouraged to take a varied approach to their professional education and can consider options such as online education, HALO modules, webinars, the International Virtual Symposium, reading books, and other eligible learning activities.

Some CPE activities have category or individual entry caps. These are in place to encourage a balanced approach to professional education across different types of learning. Full details are outlined in the updated CPE Planner.
Will the CPE categories change?
No. The CPE categories have not changed; only the way CPE is recorded is changing.
How do I log CPE Hours on the website?
Members can log in to the Association website and record their CPE Hours by completing the online CPE form. This includes details such as the title of the education, start and completion dates, number of hours, category and type.
The process is very similar to the current system. Members who are unsure how to record their CPE can contact the Association for assistance.
Will membership audits change?
No. The membership audit process will not change. The Association and private health funds may continue to request evidence of CPE, such as certificates or receipts.
