Tasmania Update on Restricted Activities
May 1 update: the Association has been advised that remedial massage and myotherapists in Tasmania who do not work out of any of the above facilities cannot apply for exemption via the form that was previously posted on this article. Only massage therapists who meet the above requirements are permitted to work at this time. Our confirmation that remedial massage therapists and myotherapists are permitted to provide professional services at this time, provided they are working from a medical or health facility.
These updates have been provided by the office of the State Health Commander. The Association notes the Tasmanian Department of Health website has not been updated since 28 April 2020 and the information was received on 29 April 2020. If you are concerned, the Association suggests you wait until the website is updated, or contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline 1800 671 738. As soon as the website is updated we will forward the link to our Members.
The Joint Associations have received clarification from the Tasmanian Government that remedial massage therapists and myotherapists are permitted to provide professional services at this time, provided they are working from a medical or health facility. This includes any premises providing health care services and complies with the Gatherings Directions.
The Association also reminds members who continue to treat to always maintain vigilant hygiene and infection control. For more information, see our video with Dr Norman Swan.
If you have not already completed it, the Association also recommends the COVID-19 Infection Control Training module provided by the Department of Health. Members who complete this course can claim 5 CPE points.
We will keep you updated as new information comes to hand.
