HCF system issue resolved
HCF have advised that the database issue that they have been experiencing has been resolved and clients can resubmit invoices for assessment. All provider files have been run into the HCF system in date order received. HCF have also advised that there may be gaps in registration for some providers due to the period it has taken HCF to load these files. HCF will endeavour to close any gaps as claims/enquiries come in from their Frontline and Claims Teams. Updating the Massage Therapy Training Package Qualifications

SkillsIQ is a not-for-profit, independent skills service organisation supporting a range of Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) to undertake training product development that ensures skills meet future industry needs. Training product development is commissioned by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) according to a national schedule and based on both industry and Government priorities.
SkillsIQ, under the direction of the Complementary Health Industry Reference Committee (IRC), has undertaken a project to review and update the Massage Therapy Training Package Qualifications and related Units of Competency to align to the changing duties of existing and future job roles for all massage therapists. The IRC convened a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to provide specialist input into the review and development of the massage and remedial massage therapy training packages.
Draft 1: Consultation for the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice and the Diploma of Remedial Massage was undertaken in November 2020. Substantial feedback from industry was received and collated by SkillsIQ.
Draft 2: Consultation for the two qualifications will open for general feedback in May 2021. Whilst the National Education Committee and the Board will submit feedback on behalf of Massage & Myotherapy Australia, feedback can be submitted from anyone and the Association encourages members to have a say in the future of massage therapy training.
The Association will notify members via email and social media when the consultation opens. For more information about SkillsIQ and the IRC and TAC Consultation Process, visit the SkillsIQ website.

COVID-19 Vaccination Contraindication

Massage & Myotherapy Australia has received queries from members regarding a concern of contraindication and COVID-19 vaccination.
If your client has received a COVID-19 Vaccination within 20 days of proposed massage therapy, remedial massage or myotherapy treatment, it is recommended that therapists request clients provide a letter from their GP supporting treatment. The TGA have advised that people who receive the COVID-19 vaccines should be aware of common side effects. The instances of someone developing a rare clotting complication have occurred between 4 and 20 days post vaccination.
Further, the Therapeutic Goods Administration has reported that ‘There have been at least 885,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine administered in Australia to date, so while numbers are small, 3 (three) cases of TTS (thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome) equate to a frequency of 1 in 295,000.’ Further adding that ‘The overall number of reports received for blood clots following vaccination so far has been no higher than the expected background rate for the more common types of blood clots in Australia. These can occur in around 50 Australians every day separate to vaccination and are not related to the very rare TTS clotting disorder.’
Massage & Myotherapy Australia advises members to remain vigilant not only with respect to COVID-19 vaccinations, but as a general rule regarding contraindicators.
