In this presentation Aubrey Gowing from the Holistic College Dublin explores Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, a common and often debilitating repetitive strain condition. The standard model for explaining this chronic presentation focuses on inflammation of the flexor tendons that pass through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. However, in clinical practice we rarely see clear signs of inflammation when clients present with the classic neurological symptom distribution associated with this condition. This module takes a broader view, examining multiple contributing factors and a more integrated approach to assessment, treatment, and home care.
On completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Identify the anatomical structures and common contributors associated with Carpal Tunnel presentations
- Describe assessment approaches used when clients present with Carpal Tunnel type symptoms, including median nerve tethering
- Explain the principles involved in treating a client presenting with Carpal Tunnel symptoms
- Demonstrate appropriate home care strategies to support ongoing symptom management
