Working status of SA therapists confirmed

The Association has now received definitive confirmation on the working status of therapists in South Australia. The following is stated in a list of common questions on the SA Health website under the 'public activities' tab:

Can I provide remedial massage?

Yes, as long as it’s provided by a qualified health care provider at a health facility not at a wellness centres/day spas/massage parlour.

The Association interprets this to mean that therapeutic massage, remedial massage and myotherapy is permitted in South Australia provided that treatment takes place in a clinic or home-based clinic that meets Clinical Settings Guidelines. Please note that it is the intention of level 5 Stay at Home restrictions that all non-essential treatments be postponed.

Both therapists and clients must wear face masks at all times and the clinic must have implemented the COVID SAfe Check-In QR code service. The Association interprets that mobile massage is not permitted during the lockdown.

The Association recognises that it has been a particularly stressful and confusing few days for South Australian-based massage therapists and we are thrilled to finally provide clarity for our South Australian members. Massage & Myotherapy Australia will continue to monitor the situation and notify members if there are any changes to these directions.
