Update: there are two additional resources that accompany this article. Click here to learn more.

Massage & Myotherapy Australia is proud to provide members an article that is of interest to all massage therapists and myotherapists. The article, COVID-19–Related Complications by Ruth Werner, has been written to inform therapists on what they need to know about treating clients who have previously contracted COVID-19 by outlining the possible long-term complications that can be caused by the virus and break down the implications for massage therapists.

With this knowledge, massage therapists and myotherapists will build on their contraindication knowledge and recognise what they need to observe when treating clients who have previously contracted COVID-19. This is vital information for both currently practicing massage therapists and massage therapists who are currently unable to work.

COVID-19–Related Complications is available for members to access for free in the member portal of our website, or by clicking here (you must be logged into our website to access this page).

The article was originally published in Massage & Bodywork magazine. Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) have provided free access to the article for all Massage & Myotherapy Australia members. This has been made possible thanks to Massage & Myotherapy Australia’s ongoing partnership with ABMP. ABMP is the largest professional association for massage therapists and bodyworkers in the United States. To learn more about this partnership as well as discounted associate membership opportunities Massage & Myotherapy Australia members can get with ABMP click here. You can also check out the ABMP COVID-19 updates page by clicking here (please note that while some information is general in nature, some information only pertains to the United States).

About the author: Ruth Werner is a retired massage therapist, the author of textbook ‘A Massage Therapist's Guide to Pathology’ (currently in its seventh edition) and is a regular contributor to Massage & Bodywork magazine. We look forward to working with Ruth in the future.
