ACT - Dry Needling Infection Control Licencing Requirements
The Health Protection Service (HPS) has advised Massage & Myotherapy Australia that Massage Therapists and Myotherapists in the ACT performing Myofascial Dry Needling are required to comply with a licencing requirement.
Under the Public Health Act 1997, it is considered a licensable public health risk to perform a treatment that includes skin penetration procedure. In order for any practitioner to perform Dry Needling, practitioners are required to apply for an Infection Control Activity Licence and comply with the ACT Heath Practice 2005, which can be found on the health.act.gov.au website.
To apply for an Infection Control Activity Licence or for further information on licencing requirements please contact the Infection Control Unit at JPS on (02) 6205 1700 or by visiting the above address.
