HEALTH COMPLAINTS ACT 2016 (VIC) CODE OF CONDUCT FOR UNREGISTERED HEALTH PRACTIONIERS

Important changes are coming in Victoria’s Health Complaints system that may effect practise.

From 1 February 2017 the Office of the Health Services Commissioner (OHSC) will become the Health Complaints Commissioner (HCC) with new powers and responsibilities.

The HCC work of resolving complaints about healthcare and the handling of health records in Victoria will continue, there are major changes in who can accept complaints about and what actions HCC may take under the Health Complaints Act 2016 (Vic). This updated legislation includes a new Code of Conduct that all health providers must abide by along with their own individual Associations Codes. You can find a copy of the Code of Conduct in the below link, which outlines the 17 Clauses that all massage, remedial massage and myotherapists are to abide by.

Massage & Myotherapy Australia is in the process of updating our Code of Ethics to align and support the National Codes in all States and Territories in Australia and will be developing resources to assist you alongside your State requirements. In the interim please review the new clauses as they apply to you. The Health Care Commission will have a new website up early 2017 which member should familiarise themselves with.
