Major News Updates

  • Western Australia Roadmap to Easing Restrictions Update
    • On Saturday 6 June, Western Australia is set to ease COVID-19 restrictions to Stage 3 of their four-stage recovery roadmap. As part of Stage 3, the following is stated under Wellbeing and health services, '... massage may reopen'.
  • Tasmania 'Roadmap to Recovery' Update
    • On Friday 5 June at 3pm, Tasmania is set to ease COVID-19 restrictions back to Stage Two. As part of Stage Two, the following is stated: 'Gatherings at businesses increase to 20, with the following reopening or subject to changed restrictions: ... massage'.
  • Northern Territory Update on Guidelines for personal services business
    • Cert IV members in NT will be required to fill out an NT COVID-19 Personal Services Checklist before returning to work. It is the Association's understanding that only Cert IV members are required to fill out the NT COVID-19 Personal Services Checklist, members who are remedial qualified or higher are exempt.
  • Tasmania Update on Restricted Activities
    • The Joint Associations have received clarification from the Tasmanian Government that remedial massage therapists and myotherapists are permitted to provide professional services at this time, provided they are working from a medical or health facility.
  • SA Update on Restricted Activities
    • An update from the South Australian Department of Health stating that 'remedial or therapeutic massage and myotherapy services provided in a clinical or health care setting may continue'.
  • ACT Update – Essential Services
    • The ACT Government has updated their website, Remedial Massage Therapy, Sports Massage and Lymphatic massage are classed as an essential service. See the COVID-19: Guidance for massage therapists document for further clarification on what massage services are permitted during the pandemic.
  • Queensland Update on Restricted Activities
    • The Queensland Government responded to our member advocacy and clarified that massage therapy provided by a qualified massage therapist may continue to operate ‘for the management or prevention of a disease, injury or condition… with social distancing observed to the extent possible’.
  • Update on Aon Health Combined Professional Indemnity, Public & Products Liability Policy
    • This update seeks to answer some commonly asked questions relating to cover under the Aon Health Combined Professional Indemnity, Public and Products Liability Policy around the impacts on cover of temporarily or permanently ceasing to provide professional services.
  • Applications for JobKeeper are Now Open
    • Applications for the Government's JobKeeper Stimulus Package are now open. Business owners and sole traders who have been affected by COVID-19 may be eligible to apply.
  • Latest COVID-19 Update on States and Territories
    • The Joint Associations have worked together to provide the following list of the states and territories where remedial and myotherapy is permitted and not permitted. This list includes updates on some states that were previously unknown, such as Tasmania.
  • NSW COVID-19 Update
    • Over the Easter weekend we received clarification that members in NSW are permitted to provide professional services at this time. This information was provided by the NSW Government.
  • WA COVID-19 Update
    • We have received clarification that members in WA are permitted to provide professional services at this time. This information was provided by the WA Police Force Liaison for the COVID-19 Response.
  • Victoria Update on Restricted Activities
    • An FAQ released by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services suggests that massage therapists can continue to treat in Victoria.
  • Northern Territory Update on Restricted Activities
    • The Northern Territory Department of Health have updated their 'events and gatherings' website page to say that restrictions regarding massage specifically excludes 'remedial/sports/lymphatic massage'.
  • First Aid Amnesty
    • The number of Private Health Funds have agreed to join Massage & Myotherapy Australia to provide leniency for members with a First Aid qualification that is expiring.
  • HICAPS is Here to Help
    • HICAPS will be waiving the monthly terminal fee for three months to assist impacted customers in the recovery from the current COVID-19.
  • Aon COVID-19 Questions
    • Aon Answers two frequently asked questions.
  • Queensland Department of Health 26 March Update
    • QLD Health Department released a statement late on Thursday 26 March, outlining that exemptions to continue work applies to health services provided by health practitioners registered under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, with social distancing observed to the extent possible.
  • Northern Territory Department of Health 25 March Update
    • Northern Territory Health Department released a statement 25 March, outlining that 'The following is closed to the public: a place that provides yoga, Pilates, barre, massage or other wellness services'.
