Writing in a scientific way is explored in this module, along with some tips on how to achieve the positive writing outcome. Once written, how to effectively present that which you have learned, to whom and where, is also addressed.

This module will:

  • discuss the overview of scientific writing
  • introduce the key elements of writing a journal article
  • describe key principles underpinning effective presentations

About the Presenter
Dr Saravana Kumar is a Senior Lecturer and a Research Leader at the International Centre for Allied health Evidence (iCAHE), School of Health Sciences, and University of South Australia. He was the NHMRC NICS-MAC Fellow from 2008-2010 and in 2010 was awarded a South Australian Tall Poppy Award.

Dr Kumar, as a health services researcher, has keen interest in bridging the gap between research evidence and clinical practice. As an early career researcher, he has won over $1.7 million since 2005 in personal and project grants funding.

He has published more than 80 referred journal articles, authored two book chapters, co-edited one book and has presented at 70 key conferences and meetings. Dr Kumar also teaches topics on evidence-based practice and evidence implementation to students and health professionals, nationally and internationally. He also acts as a consultant to several national and international agencies on issues pertinent to evidence-based practice.
