Answering Member Questions About Metro Melbourne's Reopening

With metropolitan Melbourne members finally being able to return to routine services, the Association has been receiving many questions from members (and many non-members) on what is and is not currently allowed.

The following information is our interpretation of the current settings. If any of this information changes we will notify members as soon as possible. If you have any questions that have not been answered here, it is possible they have already been answered in our COVID-19 FAQs page.

If you have not already done so, please ensure that you have completed a COVIDSafe Plan. Please note that you are not required to submit your COVIDSafe Plan to anyone but may be required to present it to appropriate authorities upon request. Instructions on how to complete a COVIDSafe Plan can be found here.

Is mobile massage allowed?

During mobile service, you may be unable to maintain the necessary hygiene and infection control needed to work in other premises. The Association strongly recommends you consider this factor before resuming mobile treatments. That being said, there is currently no restriction against mobile massage.

Am I allowed to reopen my business from a home-based clinic?

It is our current understanding that you can reopen your business from a home-based clinic as long as it meets clinical settings guidelines (found here under 'other'). The Association recommends you contact your local council however as they may have additional requirements that you need to meet.

I heard that a home-based clinic is only allowed to open if they are operating in a separate residence to where occupants live, if there is a separate entrance for workers, and separate bathroom facilities. Is this true?

Update: for more information about home-based clinic requirements, please view click here.

Can my client travel further than 25kms to see me?

Update: there is no longer a 25km travel limit in Victoria.

Can a client from regional Victoria visit a clinic in metropolitan Melbourne?

Update: there are no longer any restrictions on travelling between regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne.

Can I work at multiple clinics?

According to the Industry Restart Guidelines that were released in September, employers should aim to 'Limit or cease the number of workers working across multiple work sites'. For those who are working at multiple clinics, those guidelines recommend that ‘Employers must keep a log of all employees working across multiple sites including date, time and place of attendance. Employees must provide a written declaration to each employer to advise that they are working at more than one work site.’

What are the PPE requirements?

Please ensure that you and your clients are wearing fitted facemasks at all times.
