In order to offer Massage & Myotherapy members quality educational programs. The Association has developed criteria for course approval, the programs and presenters listed below meet the Massage & Myotherapy Endorsed Education Activities Program requirements.

Massage & Myotherapy would like to bring to the attention that when considering any form of coursework from an RTO, a Massage & Myotherapy Endorsed Education Activities Provider or any provider of education, that members read the terms and conditions thoroughly BEFORE registering and ask any questions about results, certification, refunds etc prior to payment.

Course Description

Oncology Massage Training (OMT) prepares therapists to work with the growing number of Australians experiencing cancer. Massage does not spread cancer and OMT explains the science of cancer and cancer treatments as well as developing your skills in oncology massage. Modules One and Two, will allow you to work with clients in your private practice.

Topics covered include understanding the science of cancer; psycho-neuro-immunology and epigenetics; how fascial nerves respond to gentle touch; working with clients on the edge of life; caring fur yourself as an OM therapist; and supervised clinical practical.

Modules Three and Four specifically cover working within the medical model. Manual handling and infection control; communication within a hospital; working as part of a team; and supervised practical sessions with out-patients, in- patients, Day Infusion experience and Radiation Oncology waiting area treatments. OMT now run Modules Three and Four at the Olivia Newton John (Austin Health) Cancer and Wellness Centre in Victoria, and will seek national accreditation in 2012.

The OMT facilitators are all accredited to the highest Australian standards and by Society for Oncology Massage and have many years of experience in oncology massage. In 2011, OMT developed the first national OMT database and contact-a-therapist list, which is open to OM2 graduates when they pass the examination standards. OMT web site is a resource for massage students and published articles are available to be down loaded or viewed.

OMT also maintain an information and support page on Facebook, ensuring that graduates have access to mentoring and support.
